Mark Deutschmann has been a driving force in Nashville’s real estate and development scene since the early 1990s. He founded Village Real Estate in 1996, Core Development in 2003, and The CityLiving Group in 2005. Under Mark’s leadership, Village grew to employ over 350 agents and staff. In 2019, he transitioned to Chair Emeritus after selling the majority of his interest in Village. Village was rebranded as Parks Real Estate in April 2023 and later merged with Compass in May 2024.
Today, Mark and his CityLiving Group team continue to excel in residential real estate sales at Compass, specializing in Nashville’s vibrant inner-loop neighborhoods and distinctive urban homes. With over $1 billion in career sales and $550 million in development sales since 2018, they’ve successfully sold out more than 55 communities and closed over 3,500 units. Mark has sold thousands of homes in sought-after areas like Hillsboro Village, 12 South, and other urban communities. His team has led the sales of numerous prominent residential developments across the city consistently earning recognition as a top-producing sales group.
Through Core Development, Mark and his team champion walkable, community-focused developments in emerging neighborhoods. Their portfolio includes celebrated projects such as Exchange Lofts, Kress Lofts, Werthan Lofts, the Chesterfield, Richland Station, The Finery in Wedgewood-Houston, and Alloy on Tech Hill. Many of these projects have earned Urban Land Institute awards for excellence in design. Core continues to shape Nashville’s future with innovative developments in up-and-coming areas.
Mark’s commitment to community extends beyond real estate. He has served as president of Urban Land Institute Nashville and Greenways for Nashville, co-chaired the Mobility Committee of the Mayor’s Sustainability Advisory Committee to advance the Nashville Carbon Challenge, and currently serves as Vice Chair of the Greenways Commission and on the boards of the Transit Alliance, Nashville Entrepreneur Center, and the Advisory Committee for Walk Bike Nashville. Alongside his wife, Sherry, Mark has co-chaired the Next Awards and Dinner by the Bridge multiple times. By the end of 2023, the Village Fund, the charitable arm of Village and Core, had donated over $5 million to the community. Mark’s leadership has earned him numerous accolades, including being named Realtor of the Year in 2023 by Greater Nashville Realtors, recognition as a Power 100 leader by the Nashville Business Journal, and induction into the Entrepreneurs’ Hall of Fame in 2025.
In 2017, Mark published One-Mile Radius: Building Community from the Core, a book that reflects his passion for creating connected, thriving neighborhoods.
Mark holds undergraduate degrees in zoology and Spanish, as well as an MBA in International Management. He and his wife, Sherry Stewart Deutschmann—a serial entrepreneur and founder of LetterLogic and Braintrust—live in Hillsboro Village, where they enjoy walking the neighborhoods and Greenways.
